To date, this mutation has now been verified in five very unrelated families spread across the entirety of the U.S. In our estimation, the mutation is therefore likely to be rather old and perhaps widespread in the breed. We believe this is the primary cause of dwarfism in Vizslas, but it is important to note that there is a second unidentified cause. A single dwarf from our study does not have this mutation.
